“Spiritually Equipped for Battle For Such A Time As This” – Part 2
The Belt of Truth
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Ephesians 6:13-14 KJV
In the Roman Army a soldier’s belt was important. It was called the “cingulum or balteus.” The belt held the scabbard, which was where the sword was placed. The belt held some of the most important pieces of weaponry in tact. When I was a police officer, it was the belt that held my holster, clip magazines, radio, baton and other equipment. The belt played a vital role in being prepared. Imagine what danger the overenthusiastic soldier would be in without the belt and his weapon. The belt must cleave close to the body to “gird” the other pieces in place.
The Belt of Truth is to be girded very close to our bodies. Without the Belt of Truth, which is The Gospel of Jesus Christ, we cannot begin to defend ourselves from the father of lies, Satan.
This lesson addresses OBSERVATION, the second value of Calvary Baptist Church’s Christian Family Value System: A Christian Biblical Worldview. A Worldview is the lens in which we see life.

The Big Picture: God’s Word Will Hold Us Together And Keep Us From Falling Apart During COVID 19
Key Thought #1: Seeing that we are now aware of the (wiles) tricks, methods and schemes of the enemy we now recognize that he is too powerful for us to fight unprepared. The enemy attacks when we are vulnerable. COVID 19 has caused a reaction of vulnerability within many. Therefore, we must “take up” the whole armor that God has provided for us to be victorious. In your mind, imagine all of the armor that you need is laying on the ground before your feet. Look at the Belt of Truth – God’s Word.
- What is the first directive that Paul gives in verse 13?
- Why is this so important?
- What does Paul mean by “that ye may be able to withstand the evil day?”
- What does Paul mean by “having done all, to stand?”
Key Thought #2: Truth must be taught in Basic Training for the Christian. Without Truth we have nothing to even begin the fight. No Truth! No Armor!
- Why do you think Paul has our loins girt about with truth first?
- How does the belt of truth guard us against lies and deception?
- Why should every Christian take 2 Timothy 2:15 to heart during COVID19?
Group Life Application Question
What is truth…? Is truth relevant or based on personal feelings?
Personal Probing Question
To wear the belt of truth gives Christ the “final say” in your life. Who or what has the final say in your life?
