Rev. Robert A. Merrills
Reverend Robert Merrills was born and raised in Huntingdon, PA, located 200 miles west of Philadelphia and 136 miles East of Pittsburgh. He recognized God at work and after accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior he became involved in youth activities. He saw God’s ability to attract young people and show them promise for their lives.
Rev. Merrills relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1994 to work for the University of Utah. He immediately became active in youth ministry at two youth detention centers, which led to coordinating a team who performed weekly visits and monthly church services at each center. He coordinated Calvary’s detention center ministry for seven years, and has served as a teacher and Superintendent of Sunday school. He was appointed to Calvary’s Deacon ministry in 2002 and ordained in 2006, received his license to preach in 2009, and became an ordained minister in 2017.
Rev. Merrills holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast/Cable, a Master of Business Administration degree and a Master of Divinity degree. He is married to the beautiful Ptoshia (pronounced Toe-sha) Merrills who is a member of the Calvary’s Trustee and Missions ministries, both are loving parents to E. Kaden Merrills who is a Jr. Trustee and youth usher.
He believes that God is always at work around us and invites us to join him in his work.
Minister Roderic R. Land, Ph.D
Chicago native, Dr. Roderic R. Land, came to Calvary Baptist Church in 2004 where he has been worshiping and serving the Lord ever since.
Although he did not accept the call into formal ministry until 2012, he believes he was called to ministry at a very young age, recalling childhood years providing for those in need, speaking up for those who did not have a voice and standing up for those who were put down.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a minor in Ethnic Studies and Music from Western Illinois University, a Master of Arts Degree in Human Development Counseling, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Policy Studies from University of Illinois.
Dr. Land believes that ministry simply means service, and he has dedicated himself to a life of service.
Minister Michael Washtour
Originating from Kikuyu, Kenya, Minister Michael Washtour obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biblical Studies from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2009.
Rev. Jay Ragsdale
Reverend Jay Ragsdale is active in the Salt Lake community. He leads the Fill the Pot Ministry that provides meals, shelter, and clothing to the homeless and displaced members of the community.
