Each year, the University of Utah recognizes the achievements of exceptional faculty members in teaching, research, mentorship and service. Congratulations to Calvary’s very own Dr. William A. Smith!

Professor William A. Smith’s research primarily focuses on Racial Battle Fatigue—a repetitive race-related stress injury—which is the cumulative emotional, psychological, physiological, and behavioral effects that racial micro-level aggressions and macro-level aggressions have on People of Color. Dr. Smith’s work promotes awareness of the physical and mental toll of racism while providing trauma-informed care for those who are targets of gendered racism.

The IGBC Youth Department will be hosting its annual educational scholarship banquet. In preparation for that banquet, High School Seniors wishing to be considered for the IGBC France A. Davis Scholarship, must submit their speech to their church youth director. Youth Directors must have their speeches to me (Tamara Palmer) not later than Monday, May 10, 2021 at 5 pm. College acceptance letters must be received by August 2nd in order to receive your funds.

The Utah Jazz are providing a full, four-year scholarship to an underrepresented student of color enrolling as a 1st year student for the 2021-22 school year. The first 30 scholarships, will be awarded to students starting school in the fall of 2021. All remaining scholarships will be awarded beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. The scholarship will cover up to the full cost of attendance — including tuition, books, fees, and room and board — for each recipient’s full undergraduate education at one of six universities in the state of Utah. The Esther Williams Scholarship is now available for women who plan to attend college starting Fall 2021.
