A Statement on Covid-19 from Calvary Baptist Church

Your spiritual, physical and mental health and well-being is my concern. On yesterday morning, Chairman of Deacons, Deacon Stanton Johnson and I met with Kola Okuyemi, MD, MPH.  Dr. Okuyemi is both a medical doctor and member of Calvary Baptist Church. He scheduled a meeting with me, based on his concern for the safety of the Calvary membership during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr. Okuyemi informed us that we should NOT respond casually to the Covid -19 pandemic, but take ALL measures to ensure public safety and eliminate the further spread of the virus. I asked Dr. Okuyemi for his professional recommendation for scheduling church services this weekend. He recommended as an immediate safety precaution, to cancel ALL meetings scheduled at the church this weekend. Upon the completion of our meeting I was then informed that Governor Herbert issued a mandate limiting gatherings to under 100 persons.

As inconvenient as this may be, I have decided to adhere to Dr. Okuyemi’s recommendation and suspend ALL activities at Calvary Baptist Church this weekend.

All Ministry meetings, activities, and worship services scheduled for March 14 and March 15 are CANCELED and the building will be closed.

This includes choir rehearsals, play rehearsals, meetings and worship services of any kind.

What is the plan? – I will broadcast a sermon on our YouTube channel on Sunday, March 15 at 11:00 am.

Next Week? – It is our goal to implement a temporary worship service schedule, until we can return to a normal state. Our aim is to eliminate mass gatherings of 100 or more people in one setting. To accomplish this and to provide the best opportunities for worship, we will host 3 services beginning next Saturday, March 21, 2020 and extending to Sunday, March 22, 2020.

The schedule is as follows:

Saturday, March 22 – 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Saturday Night Live Service
(Ages 40 years and younger)
This service will be contemporary style worship with a relaxed dress code.

Sunday, March 23 – 8:00am to 9:00am
Traditional Worship Service
This service will be a traditional Calvary Baptist Church Worship.

Sunday, March 23 – 11:00am to 12:00pm
“Tragressional” Worship Service
This service will be traditional with a combination of contemporary music.

Children’s Church Will Be Open for All Three Services.

Finally, I want to be clear; the spiritual health, safety and well-being of every member of Calvary Baptist Church is my major concern! I believe God has permitted this season for the Body of Christ to revive our relationship with Him and to re-align our will with His Will. I believe this experience has the potential to strengthen our witness of Christ and make Calvary an even stronger church.

Because of Him!

Dr. Oscar T. Moses,
Pastor, Calvary Baptist Church
