GUIDING PRINCIPLE: Without obedience to the law, there is chaos, hurt of oneself, and destruction of the environment. God gives us clear Divine instructions for meaningful living.

THE SEED OBEYING GOD’S LAW/BE OBEDIENST TO THE LAW EXODUS 20: 18-26
A. Fear from Within/Lightening (Exodus 20: 18-20)
1. When all the people heard the thundering and lightning, they retreated.
2. They asked Moses to speak to them and promised to listen.
3. They worried that God be kill them if He spoke directly, be vengeful.
4. Moses comforted the people and said God was just trying to get their attention.
B. Idolatry is Forbidden (Exodus 20: 21-23)
1. The people stood afar off from God while Moses got closer to God.
2. God told Moses what to say to the people.
3. They were not to make graven images or their own god’s.
C. The Right Kind of Altar (Exodus 20: 24-26)
1. There are acceptable ways of approaching God and unacceptable ways. Be careful.
2. Be careful how you present yourself to God.
We must obey the Lord to receive His blessings. There are blessings for those who obey.
PLANTING THE SEED
What might make us want to stand afar off from God?
How are we reassured of our relationship to God?
For what purpose does the awesome display of God’s power of Sinai take place?

FRUIT FROM THE CROP
People are in awe when God speaks with all power and authority.
When we are aware of our sin, we are tempted to stand afar off from God.
God’s loves draws us away from sin so we can serve and follow him.
God has given us ample evidence that He alone is God.
Worship is about remembering who God is and turning ourselves over to Him.
Our worship must always be centered on God and God alone.
The worship of God is spiritual.
God speaks to us in various ways. Listen!
Let God drive you by fear. Trust!
Have no other gods. One God!
Worship without manmade objects. In Spirit and Truth!
